General Meeting – Sept 15 2014

Bankers Hill Community Group Meetings Resume
Monday, Sept. 15th — 6-8pm
Welcome back to the monthly meetings of the Bankers Hill Community Group (BHCG). Residents, property and business owners are encouraged to join conversations about Bankers Hill and San Diego issues on the third of each month (except August and December). It’s a great opportunity to learn more about our neighborhood. Come early at 6pm for an opportunity to chat with old friends and meet new ones.

Meetings are held at the San Diego Indoor Sports Club, 3030 Front Street. Take Palm off First Avenue to Front…turn right and look for the plentiful parking. Everyone is welcome.

Sixth Avenue Bridge Promenade into Bankers Hill

The intent of this project is to create a much safer pedestrian crossing between downtown, Balboa Park and the entrance to Bankers Hill and also to create a more pleasant and attractive route across the freeway bridge. Consultant Laura Burnet and Judith Swink will represent this Civic SD project which is seeking to obtain funding to proceed with feasibility and design planning. There will be future workshops in which the public may advocate on design choices such as types of trees and materials for the shade structures. The powerpoint presentation at the Monday, September 15 meeting will show current images and the proposed design. Come see what you think.

San Diego Pride check presentation
Bankers Hill residents and business owners volunteered throughout the weekend of San Diego Pride (July 18-20) putting the sparkle back on the community after the parade and festival. Pride’s Executive Director, Stephen Whitburn, will attend our meeting with a donation to the Bankers Hill Community Group in appreciation of neighborhood efforts. It’s significant…come find out how much Pride is contributing to our group.

2015 Balboa Park Centennial Springtime Celebration
Volunteers are needed to help with this community conceived, planned and organized weekend event to celebrate the centennial of the Panama-California Exposition in Balboa Park. Planned for the weekend of Saturday and Sunday, April 11 and 12, 2015, San Diegans and visitors will enjoy a variety of activities. Volunteer organizer David Lundin will share the latest information and explain how you can become involved.

Representatives of local, state and national politicos
San Diego representatives from Congresswoman Susan Davis, State Senator Marty Block, Speaker of the State Assembly Toni Atkins, Mayor Kevin Faulconer, Council President Todd Gloria, County Supervisor Ron Roberts and the City Attorney’s office. Got an issue that needs attention? Talk to one of these representatives at our meetings.

More news from around the neighborhood…
The BHCG Design Review Committee met with representatives of SANDAG to discuss the impacts of the proposed bike route as it passes through Bankers Hill. The city had (years ago) set aside money for a redesign of intersections at Fourth and Quince and the intersections of Fourth and Fifth at Nutmeg. What is next?

Coming up next month…
Would you like to participate in investing several hundred thousand dollars in our community? The Uptown Community Parking District (UCPD) elections for representatives from Bankers Hill will take place at our Monday, October 20 meeting. One seat is open to a Bankers Hill resident and the other for a business owner (or their representative). The Bankers Hill subcommittee meets on the first Monday of each month and the full board of the UCPD meets on the second Monday of the month. Both meetings take place at 5pm and last 90 minutes. Please consider making time in your schedule to represent our neighborhood on this important board. Call Elizabeth Hannon (COO) at the UCPD at (619) 846-5754 if you would like to run for this board or need more information.

Monthly meetings on 3rd Mondays at the Bankers Hill Social Club (formerly the San Diego Indoor Sports Club), 3030 Front Street!
