  • All great suggestions, Jim…thanks for sharing.

    — What does the neighborhood think of lowering the hourly meter rate on fourth avenue meters that are seldom used?

    — Should meters be installed on both sides of Fifth Avenue?

    — A stop sign at Fourth & Spruce has also been suggested by several residents and business owners in the area.

    — There’s an empty parking lot on the SE corner of Upas & Third. (I think it may be owned by the now-relocated blood bank.) It could be a great resource.

Please attend the workshop (aka charrette) on Monday evening, February 18 beginning at 6:30 on the top floor of the Inn at the Park (Spruce Street between Fifth & Sixth avenues). Your suggestions are wanted, and refreshments will be provided. Hope all businesses and residents with ideas to manage Bankers Hill parking will be there!

  • bh parking:

    1. install 4 hour meters on east side of sixth ave for full length of balboa park (elm to upas). saturday and sunday free. this will generate revenue and prevent street spaces from being used for downtown parking freeloaders during the week. parking spaces on sixth ave are outside legal boundary of balboa park, hence it should be possible to implement (meters would be on curbside islands and NOT in balboa park) with or without park approval.

    2. install free angled parking on “balboa drive” within balboa park west with 4 hour limit during week to stop these spaces being used by downtown parking freeloaders during the week. these spaces will be freed up for park users, business visitors and local users.

    3. install 4 all way stops on sixth ave at: grape street; juniper; nutmeg; and spruce streets to allow for safer pedestrian crossing of sixth ave. these crossings will link bankers hill to the park and promote easier interchange between bankers hill and the park. this action corresponds to the recommendations of the recent “hillcrest mobility plan, alternative one”.
